MY APPROACH TO PSYCHOLOGICAL SUPPORT

I take a holistic, developmental, and ecological approach to understanding and alleviating my clients' difficulties - this means that I consider an individual's unique characteristics and neurotype as well as how they are being impacted by their experiences and interactions within their family, school, friendships, and the community more broadly. I recognise that mental health and wellbeing difficulties usually emerge over time from a complex interplay of factors and that our capacity to manage difficult experiences varies depending on who we are and what stage of life we are at. I combine my psychological knowledge and clinical skill with the expertise my clients hold about themselves to make sense of their difficulties and figure out the most effective way to move towards better health and wellbeing.

In my therapeutic work with children, adolescents and young adults, I primarily use Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), EMDR Therapy, and positive psychology approaches. I also draw from Mindful Self-Compassion, Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Interpersonal Neurobiology. When supporting parents and caregivers, I am informed primarily by the Tuning into Teens approach and Collaborative and Proactive Solutions (CPS). ACT, Mindful Self-compassion, and CBT also heavily influence my support of parents who need wellbeing support in addition to parenting help.
